ELA 6-8
The instructional materials reviewed for Holt McDougal Literature Grades 6 through 8 include many components of the standards to support students’ growing literacy skills. The core texts used are high quality and include appropriate genres and rigor for students at the grade levels, although teachers may need to supplement to ensure students growing literacy over the school year. The materials are partially aligned to the demands of the standards in reading, writing, speaking and listening, and language. The materials partially support students’ growing knowledge in application of integrated skills and writing.

The instructional materials reviewed for Holt McDougal Literature Grades 9 through 12 include many components of the standards to support students’ growing literacy skills. In grades 9 and 10, the materials partially meet expectations of alignment in reading, writing, speaking and listening and in building knowledge and comprehension of topics and themes. In grades 11 and 12, materials include some components of instruction in these areas, but do not meet the expectations of providing tasks and activities that synthesize multiple standards to grow their knowledge, academic vocabulary, and critical thinking. Texts provided are mostly high quality and are appropriately rigorous for high school students.
