Maggie Deaton

Inspired by her experience teaching first and second grade students from around the world, Maggie deeply values children and educators and passionately advocates for justice for students and families from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. As a Spanish language learner, she is consistently humbled by what it feels like to learn a new language.

Maggie began her teaching career as a Teach For America corps member. After leaving the classroom, she spent twelve years coaching teachers and leaders, facilitating professional learning, and collaborating with the state of Georgia’s Bilingual Rising Pre-K program with a focus on language, literacy, and intentional support for multilingual learners. She also served as board chair of a charter school with students speaking 30+ languages. 

Maggie holds a B.A. in English from Rhodes College, with time spent studying comparative education and social change in Chile, and a M.A. in Teaching from Georgia State University.

She enjoys sharing meals with friends and family, spending time in nature with her husband and young children, learning from her refugee background neighbors, traveling, reading, and discovering new children's books.
