
Melody Hawkins
Lead, Reviews (Science)
Dr. Melody Hawkins is the Science Lead, Reviews at EdReports, where she advances the quality of science instructional materials to support equitable, high-quality learning experiences for all students. Prior to this role, she served as an assistant principal, district K–12 science facilitator, and middle school science teacher in Knox County Schools in Knoxville, Tennessee. Dr. Hawkins is an award-winning educator and author of Black Girl in the Middle (Corwin Press) and a guest lecturer for National University. Her work has been featured in educational spaces and publications that highlight her commitment to equity, belonging, and strong instructional systems. She was named the 2021 National University Teacher of the Year, one of Knoxville’s “40 Under 40” most influential leaders, and received a state proclamation recognizing her impact in education.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Tennessee, a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Carson-Newman University, a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Austin Peay State University, and a Doctorate in Organizational Innovation from National University. Outside of her work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters, reading, writing, and watching documentaries.
