Report Overview

Summary of Alignment & Usability: Literacy by Design | ELA

ELA K-2

The instructional materials reviewed for Literacy by Design Kindergarten, Grade 1, and Grade 2 do not meet expectations for alignment. Materials partially meet expectations for text quality, complexity, and alignment to the standards. Questions and activities, including writing, speaking, and listening do not consistently require students to actively engage with the texts under study, though students do encounter academic vocabulary in some activities. Materials provide support for the acquisition of foundational skills with questions and tasks that help students to move from skills acquisition to application of skills to read and comprehend texts.
