Report Overview

Summary of Alignment & Usability: Bookworms | ELA

ELA K-2

The instructional materials for Grades K, 1, and 2 partially meet the expectations of alignment and building knowledge. Although texts are of high quality, materials do not consistently provide grade-level aligned reading, writing, speaking and listening, and language practice. Much of the foundational skills instruction happens in the Differentiated Instruction (DI) block, but the small group format and generic lesson plan format do not ensure that all students receive explicit instruction in all grade-level foundational skills. While the DI block is essential to the Bookworms program, due to copyright, the DI Manual is a separate purchase, so there is a possibility some schools or teachers would not use it.
